MS Office 2000 Service Pack 2 (incorrectly known as Service Release 2) addresses a large number of bugs in the Office 2000 suite. Microsoft never makes things easy to follow and this is another good example. The first update for Office was called Service Release 1, and then Service Release 1a after a serious bug was found in it. So what do they call the next update? Service Pack 2. There is no Service Pack 1 – it was called Service Release 1. You will need to have Office updated to SR1 or SR1a before applying this patch.
Most of the fixes in SP2 relate to security issues in HTML and Outlook documents while Word and Excell get farily extensive treatment. All up there are over 125 bug fixes which you can find in this bewildering collection of Office SP-2 documents at Microsoft.
