The USB 2.0 to IDE Drive Adapter is a connection bridge between a USB port and an ATA or ATAPI-based port. This USB 2.0 to IDE Drive Adapter is capable of transforming an IDE drive into a handy external drive. Users can easily move files between computers, laptops, and drives for back up and access. A hi-speed USB interface enables easy installation through the Plug and Play design. This adapter is compatible with various IDE/ATAPI devices such as CD-RW, DVD-ROM and IDE drives, among others.

After Serial ATA was introduced to the mainstream market in 2003, the original ATA was then re-termed Parallel ATA, or PATA for short. Parallel ATA cables are limited to a maximum allowable length of only 18 in or 45.7 cm. Due to this length limit, the technology conventionally appears as an internal computer storage interface. For several years ATA provided the most widespread and the least costly interface for this application. It has mostly been replaced by Serial ATA or SATA in newer systems.
