A sound card is a computer expansion card installed internally that facilitates the input and output of audio signals to and from a personal computer under the control of audio software. It provides the computer with various slots that allow external audio devices to be connected to a computer. Typical uses of sound cards include music arrangement and composition, audio editing and audio recording. Most computers have built-in basic sound cards already, but for more specific audio needs or requirements, additional audio expansion cards are needed to boost audio capability.
