Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro developed by Creative is an external sound card that allows users to enjoy cinematic surround sound on their laptops and notebook devices that normally don’t have powerful sound cards. It addition to providing extra depth and clarity to the general audio quality, users will also get to experience EAX effects and 3D audio when playing games. The device connects to a computer using a USB 2.0 interface and supports a maximum of 6 speakers, although it can power 4.1, 2.0 and 2.1 speaker setups as well. In addition, it features a headphone output and 2 line-ins.

A key feature of this device is its robust SRC (sample rate conversion) engine which helps to enhance the sound quality of its host device. The sound processor of this card also offers 3D sound enhancement options as well as sound channel routing features. The product is equipped with Crystalizer technology. Basically, this technology involves digital analysis of recorded tracks by the audio processor which then helps to improve their audio clarity. The Crystalizer technology of this card also helps in the restoration of portions of audio tracks which get lost during dynamic range compression. The level of improvement, however, is not uniform and depends upon the audio type.
