The Sato CT408i label is a direct thermal / thermal transfer label printer designed to print tickets, wristbands, labels and badges. It features a transmissive sensor and a reflective sensor for gap and I-mark respectively, a 203 dpi resolution and 104 mm print width. It supports several connectivity options including Optional Serial, USB, IEEE1284 Parallel, Ethernet, and Wireless interfaces. A JISZ2801 anti-microbial coating prevents infection spread.

Health concerns related to thermal printers began to develop in 2000 when researchers found the presence of BPA or Bisphenol A mixed in with thermal papers. Health concerns are actually still very uncertain with laser printers even after related studies were released in 2000. However, environmental working groups and other health and science organizations pressed to pull out thermal printers that are positive of Bisphenol A from the market. In 1990, many fax machines used thermal printing technology, as did hospitals for recording fetal ultrasound scan images.
