RADEON 9100 SERIES

ATI Radeon 9100 based graphics cards (codenamed Chaplin) are based on the R200 chipset, the second generation of Radeon GPUs from ATI (now AMD). The 9100 has a DDR SDRAM memory type with maximum capacity of 128 MB. Other features include TRUFORM technology to give users ultimate gaming experience highlighting lifelike 3D characters, HYPER Z for higher bandwidth, SMARTSHADER for lighting effects, SMOOTHVISION for anti aliasing, PIXEL TAPESTRY II for higher resolution, VIDEO IMMERSION II Technology for unprecedented video quality, and CATALYST for TV out support.

The term graphics processing unit or GPU was actually popularized by one of the leading GPU manufacturers Nvidia in 1999. It was also Nvidia who manufactured the world’s first graphics processing unit called GeForce 256. GPUs are designed to help users manipulate and alter memory with ease and at blazing speeds. A GPU can be found on a video card or attached to the motherboard. Around 90% of computers and net books produced today have integrated graphics processing units.
