The HP Officejet Pro 8500 All-in-One Printer ? A909a is a thermal inkject printing device capable of providing an output rate of 35 pages/minute in draft quality, when printing in B/W mode. In color mode, the rate reduces only slightly, at 34 pages/minute. When printing in ISO quality, the product is capable of churning out 15 B/W pages/minute, and 11 when printing in color. It can print documents in bulk, up to a maximum of 7,500 each month, depending on the quality of ink and paper being used. The device utilizes Drop on Demand (DoD) inkjet printing technology to ensure high quality outputs. The device also has an inbuilt scanner and a fax machine.

The inbuilt scanner of the device uses an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software suite provided with the device. The suite automatically converts any text scanned from documents to a form, in which the user can edit it as per requirements. The software is activated whenever the user chooses scanning mode, and stays active in the background until the user manually exits the mode. The edited text after the scan and conversion can either be saved as a file in the computer attached to the device, or printed out separately. The multi-function device also comes with an image editor, which allows the user to slightly edit any scanned image, without requiring to invest in additional image editing software.
