Designed for entry level laptops and notebook computers, the NVIDIA Quadro FX 380M graphics card has a 64-bit memory interface and total 512 MB of memory. It is built on NVIDIA CUDA Architecture and supports the NVIDIA nView Display Management Software to enhance graphics quality. In terms of raw hardware, the graphics card features 16 CUDA Cores and provides full support for Microsoft DirectX 10.1 technology as well as OpenGL 3.2 and Shader Model 4.0. The NVIDIA PowerMizer technology built into the card provides smart power management and helps conserve battery life without compromising on performance. The card is fully compatible with DirectCompute technology and works effectively with Windows XP, Vista and 7 operating systems.

The graphics card comes optimized for a variety of technologies and standards like DirectCompute that makes GPGPU or General-Purpose Computing on Graphics Processing Units possible on Microsoft OSs like Windows 7 and Windows Vista. What this means is that general purpose applications can tap into the GPU in order to perform computations that would otherwise be taken care of by the CPU. This provides better load balancing and maximizes resource utilization, making all applications run faster by using the power of the GPU, and not just the graphically intensive ones. DirectCompute is distributed as part of Microsoft?s DirectX and runs on GPUs that support vesions 10 and 11 of the API.
