The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 is the final entry in NVIDIA’s 400 series of graphics cards. Equipped with a 700 MHz graphics processor and 384-bit GDDR5 memory interface, the device is capable of offering Texture Fill Rate (TFR) of 42 billion/sec. The card has 480 CUDA cores built into it, allowing multiple program threads to be executed at the same time. The device supports OpenGL 4.0 standard graphics, and a maximum of 2560 x 1600 resolution in digital display mode. In case of VGA graphics, the highest resolution supported is 2048 x 1536. It also has out-of-the-box support for proprietary Scalable Link Interface (SLI) of NVIDIA, allowing two or three identical cards of this model to be installed in a supporting motherboard and used in tandem for superior graphical performance.
The card seamlessly supports NVIDIA PhysX, the proprietary real-time engine designed to deal with physics-related graphical elements in games and movies. The PhysX Software Development Kit (SDK) allows developers to program highly realistic particle effects in games and movies, including those related to debris, dust, smoke, and water. Any NVIDIA-manufactured graphics card belonging to series 8 or higher, with a minimum of 32 CUDA cores and onboard memory of 256 MB is able to run graphical applications that utilize PhysX.
