The HP LaserJet 5P was mainly designed for use of an individual or a small workgroup. With the capacity to print up to 6 pages per minute at 600 x 600 dpi resolution, it has a monthly duty cycle of 10,000 to 20,000 pages, which would be just right for one to three users. Aside from regular paper, it also enables you to print on envelopes, labels and transparencies. With two parallel ports and one LocalTalk port, it allows easy connections to your PC or Mac.

This device is among a wide variety of laser printers made especially for individual and small group use. Laser printers are toner based, quite different from the inkjet printers that are just as popular that use liquid ink. Laser printers produce high quality text and graphics by using xerography, a process also used in photocopying and LED printing. Its biggest difference from analog photocopiers however, is that it directly scans the laser beam across the printer?s photoreceptor to create the image to be printed.
