The ViewSonic Optiquest L700 is a flat panel monitor geared towards business users on a budget. According to the manufacturer, the monitor has a relatively small footprint and produces low emissions. The product is 15.9 inches wide (with a 15.1 inch viewing area), 7.2 inches deep and 14.3 inches high, and thus occupies much less desk area than CRT monitors of similar screen size. Additionally, it weighs 11.5 lbs and features a TFT active matrix display that can generate up to 16.7 million colors. Onscreen controls allow the user to adjust display elements like color intensity and temperature. The unit requires about 40 watts of power when operational.
A TFT active matrix display is known to produce much richer, brighter colors, in addition to having a quicker response time and being lighter than a passive matrix display. This is because passive displays deliver current to the liquid crystals through a conductive grid. On the other hand, in case of active matrix devices, the electrical state of an individual pixel is stored in the display even as all other pixels are updated. This type of display uses transistors and capacitors. This ensures that only the pixels that need to change with every refresh are charged, which in turn improves image quality over passive matrix displays.AUTHOR
