The HP Officejet 4500 Desktop All-in-One Printer – G510a is equipped with an ARM9 class processor of 192 MHz clock speed, and 64 MB onboard memory of type DDR2. The device features a USB 2.0 port, and comes with a USB cable for connecting it with computers. It comes with an input tray having a capacity of 100 sheets (1 inch thick stack) of plain paper. The standard paper sizes that the printer supports include A4, A5, B5, C6, and DL. This allows the user to utilize various types of media for printing on, including photo paper, envelopes, cards, and a wide variety of custom-sized media as well.

The device is an inkjet printer - a term that refers to devices capable of printing on paper-based media. Printers of this kind print text and digital images (in both B/W and color) by propelling ink droplets directly on paper. The ink cartridges are made up of a large number of little chambers, with a small heater placed in each chamber. When print command is issued, a droplet of ink is forced out of each chamber, and a pulse of electric current is sent through each droplet. The current vaporizes the droplets, creating a partial vacuum, which draws out more ink from the chambers, and propels the liquid on paper, printing the text and/or images.
