The NVIDIA NVS 4200M card was developed by NVIDIA for notebook computers. The card can have a maximum processor clock speed of around 1620 MHz. It sports a 64-bit memory interface and 1 GB of memory. The device has a graphics clock speed of approximately 810 MHz. The product supports VGA analog display devices with up to 2048 x 1536 resolution. The device features 48 CUDA cores, which allow parallel processing of multiple program threads, with the available resources being distributed evenly among those. It offers seamless support for DirectX 11 graphics acceleration technology developed by Microsoft, and is also compatible with OpenGL 2.1.

The graphics card uses proprietary Optimus technology developed by NVIDIA, which allocates power to the GPU based on the requirements at any specific moment. For instance, when the graphics card is running 3D games that require display of curved surfaces and complex structures on screen, it is allocated maximum possible amount of power, ensuring excellent performance. However, when the user is simply browsing the Internet, Optimus technology automatically detects that the requirement of processing power is minimum, and turns off the GPU, relying on the graphics processor integrated in the motherboard to get the job done instead. This ensures best possible utilization of battery power, and helps extend battery life to a great extent.
