The NVIDIA GeForce GT 230 is a high performance graphics card from NVIDIA with a core clock of 500 megahertz and a memory clock of 500 megahertz. In addition to providing hardware support for technologies like DirectX 10 and OpenGL 2.1 right off the bat, the product is also HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) enabled, thus allowing HDCP encrypted content to play smoothly on it. The card can be connected to a digital or analog display device like an LCD or CRT monitor via a variety of connectors including DVI, VGA and HDMI. Using a dual-link DVI connection, users can achieve video resolutions of up to 2560×1600 at a refresh rate of 60Hz.

The product is compatible with PCI Express 2.0 technology, which has a per/lane throughput of 500 MB per second, compared to the 250 MB per second of PCI Express 1.0. The transfer rate is similarly doubled to about 5 gigatransfers per second. This allows a 32 lane connector to support throughput of up to 16 gigabytes per second. Additionally, the technology is backwards compatible, meaning PCI Express 1.0 cards will work fine on PCI Express 2.0 slots. Additionally, PCI Express 2.0 also improves upon various other facets of this technology, including the software architecture and the peer to peer data transfer protocol.
