The Nvidia GeForce 256 DDR Hands-On is in fact the world’s first Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). This GPU from Nvidia delivers 15 million polygons per second and has a 480 million pixels per second processing time. It comes with a 256-bit rendering engine and a 128-bit memory interface. The Nvidia GeForce 256 DDR Hands-On features transform and lighting processes for photo realism and cube environment mapping technology for lighting effects and real-time accurate reflections.

The GeForce 256 is the original release from the GeForce series by Nvidia. GeForce 256 was released in August 1999 and was the first fully Direct3D 7-compliant 3D accelerator. It has offered the gaming industry real-time 3D rendering performance and is claimed to be the world’s first graphics processing unit. Compared to previous high-end 3D game accelerators, GeForce 256 has received more favorable praise from a large number of users globally, but as CPUs have already become faster since its original release, the GeForce 256 has also shown somewhat obvious disadvantages.
